Electronic Recycling
With the increase in new technologies many consumers are trashing their
electronics into common disposal units and the process to get these electronics
recycled is complex. Furthermore, the rate for recycling glass, plastics
and metal using current processes is slow compared to the rate of demand
for products using these elements.
Recycling electronics is critical to our efforts to conserve the earth's
natural resources, reduce pollution and reduce the cost associated with
electronic disposal. Each cathode ray tube contains five to seven pounds
of lead embedded in the glass as well as other hazardous constituents, and land filling
these tubes can be hazardous to the environment. For more information
on CRT disposal, visit Managing
Waste, Cathode Ray Tubes at California's
Department of Toxic Substances Control
At Western Micronics, recycling electronics involves collecting, repairing/re-manufacturing
and selling of new or refurbished products, made from recycled materials,
that were once thought of only as waste.
